Stride
05:00
|

Words by Shay Martin Lovette
I set the woods to fire
Yeah the bramble and briar
Never knowin' what I needed
Until it all fell through
When the sky did wake
We made it back to your home state
Eyes heavy, waitin' on the Chevy to break
Somethin' bout a long road
Dancin' through a shadow
Of the people and the places we've been
Coffee on the table
Burning through your town
And when the Sun goes down without a place to hide
We'll take it all in stride
Take it all in
And how many lonesome days
Can you give away
Are you selfish at most?
It's always been that way
"If you had a dime right now
I would cut the key somehow
Show you a place and let everybody win"
Somethin' bout a long ride
Talkin' from the inside
The past it will not last
Don't you see
Coffee on the table
Burning through your town
And when the Sun goes down without a place to hide
We'll take in all in stride
Take it all in
Somethin' bout a long road
Learnin' how to let go
Of a memory kickin' me around
Whiskey on the table
A record in your hand
And when the Sun goes down you pull me like the tide
And take it all in stride
Take it all in
Take it all

Underneath Magnolias
04:27
|
|||
Words by Shay Martin Lovette
Headed out down Main Street in the pouring rain
Watching doors slam
Candles burning in the window panes
The city's cold and it's high
So are you this time of year
When the lights flicker and fade out
Ain't no vacancy here
But your empty now
Hashin' out a plan
To let all of the caged birds free
To shut out the daylight on me
You had a dream you never told us
Underneath Magnolias
If you could would you take it back
Two hundred years or more
To clarify, to decipher why
What it is that you're here for
When these old photographs
Start fading to receipts
Bitter sweet reminders
Time and a memory
Are you wealthy now?
Running out of time to spend
To let all of the caged birds free
To shut out the headlights and sleep
You had plan you never told us
Underneath Magnolias
God had a plan and tonight he told us
Underneath Magnolias

Liquor Smile
05:25
|
|||
Words by Shay Martin Lovette
Remember waking up like a newborn child
Runnin' round town with a liquor smile
Days you didn't know it where we had to go
Heart like a river waiting on the boat
And all of the world in a dizzy spin
Easy to tell by the shape we in
Give me a taste for to help me sleep
With a new plan and a guarantee
Stars they fall through the darkness here
The vast unknown or the fate we fear
Strangers to the tumbling sea
Books on a shelf where we used to be
Well love it aint no place or time
A sharp knife or a finish line
Trust in all you do not know
A lifting, a letting go
Of the dark days and the sleepless nights
Crazy eyes and the strangest lights
All these words I try to reel in
To define just what I'm feelin'
Now I hope the sunset will explain
And I can see the rain from a mile away
All good things on a Saturday
Laughing at the way the waves did shine
Simple as a diamond on that mind
Open doors and welcome souls
Ain't where you are it's who you hold
Down from the city to the days of old
And every little town that you've been before
Understand you were born to be
In trouble frequently
Everybody knows nobody's free
Don't you let it get the best of me
And love it ain't no place or time
A sharp knife or a finish line
Faith in all you do not know
A lifting, a letting go
Of the dark days and the sleepless nights
Crazy eyes and the strangest lights
Whatever lifts you up or fails you
When there ain't nothing I can tell you
Well I hope the sunset will explain
It's been a mean ride
But where headed out
Singin' loud from the city to the South
There was a map I had to draw you
Before I ever saw you
So I know the sunset will explain
Remember waking up like a newborn child
Runnin' round town with a liquor smile

Bermuda Run
03:25
|
|||
Words by Shay Martin Lovette
She was a desert highway
And I was sliding sideways
Losing control
Save my soul
Lost and low down
Looking like hell
But we made it up from the bottom of the well
To meet the moon
Like the world was ending soon
Headed towards the rising Sun
But I ain't ever going back to Bermuda Run
Wild bird laughter and the sweetest pain
After all these changes
What remains
Lost and low down
Waiting on a win
Now the story just gets stranger my friend
We cannot see
What's coming for you and me
Headed towards the rising Sun
But I ain't ever going back to Bermuda Run
She was an honest gamble
Nothing I could handle
Still I had to try
Don't ask me why
Lost and low down
Find out how to shake
Some days we bloom
Some days were breaking in two
But we got so much more to do
Headed towards the rising Sun but I ain't ever going back
Don't care what they said I done I ain't ever going back
Headed towards the rising Sun
Well I ain't ever going back to Bermuda Run
